Heat transfer optimization in a horizontal helical-shaped ground heat exchanger through response surface methodology

Abstract Various combinations of objective functions and design variables have been considered in several optimization studies ground heat exchangers (GHEs). In this study, the optimum values coil pitch diameter a helical-shaped GHE were determined to maximize its convection transfer rate. Central composite was used determine dimensions be modeling. Nine models generated Fusion360 which then exported ANSYS Fluent for CFD simulation. Then, second-order model convective rate per unit length as function using response surface methodology. For space (coil pitch: 600 1200 mm; diameter: 1200mm), highest achieved at 600mm 1200mm. Furthermore, study showed that if both are simultaneously GHE, would directly proportional relationship with rate, while an inversely relationship.
